Within the framework of the project, a series of documents and materials has been developed with the aim of supporting the effective management of urban bathing waters in terms of protecting public health. The resources collected reflect the outcomes of joint project activities and provide practical support for public authorities, bathing water operators, and other stakeholders involved in bathing water management.
Among these materials are the Joint Strategy for Urban Bathing Waters and the Action Plans. The panel also includes methodological documents of Pilot actions implemented during the project and descriptions of tested Solutions.
Transnational Bathing Water Strategy
Joint transnational strategy is addressing to the health risks associated with the use of urban bathing waters in the context of climate change and increasing recreational demand. It highlights key environmental pressures such us sewage contamination, urban runoff, and the proliferation of harmful microorganisms connected with rising temperatures and extreme weather events. It defines five strategic goals aimed at improving risk identification, monitoring systems, exposure prevention, climate resilience, and cross-sector cooperation. The strategy included policy briefings.
Urban Bathing Water Action Plans
The Action Plans address key objectives aimed at strengthening bathing water management systems. These include improving the scope and frequency of monitoring to enhance the understanding of health and environmental risks, as well as strengthening preparedness for short-term pollution events through identification pollution source and the development of early warning approaches. It also promotes increased climate resilience of bathing, pollution source control as a means of risk mitigation, and actions for communication and increasing public awareness including stakeholders, decision-makers, and the bathing users. In addition, the Action Plans support long-term sustainability by encouraging people to develop and expand their knowledge.
Pilot Actions and Solutions
The Pilot Actions and Solutions documents describe practical interventions tested within the framework of the project, aimed at improving bathing water quality and strengthening the protection of public health at urban bathing sites. These activities were implemented in real operational conditions to assess their to water quality management and risk reduction.
